Description of the organization's activities: THE AEROSPACE INDUSTRIES ASSOCIATION OF CANADA (AIAC) IS AN INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION REPRESENTING IN EXCESS OF 400 LARGE, MEDIUM AND SMALL CANADIAN ENTERPRISES THAT GENERATED MORE THAN 79,000 HIGH TECH JOBS AND REVENUES IN EXCESS OF $22BILLION IN 2006. THE ASSOCIATION IS THE VOICE OF CANADA'S AEROSPACE INDUSTRY. AIAC ON BEHALF OF ITS MEMBERS UNDERTAKES ADVOCACY, EXPORT PROMOTION AND EVENT PLANNING ACTIVITIES.

Subject Matter: Retrospective: Over the last year AIAC's advocacy efforts were directed towards: 1) the establishment of a successor program to Technology Partnerships Canada (TPC); 2) implementation of an appropriate industrial benefits strategy for Department of National Defence (DND) procurements, specifically on the acquisition of new strategic and tactical aircraft and medium/heavy-lift helicopters; 3) resolution of problematic US export control issues (International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)) impacting Canadian aerospace firms; and, 4) confirming Canadian participation in the next phase of the US-led Joint Strike Fighter program.
Subject Matter: Prospective: Advocacy priorities will continue to focus on: 1) ensuring that the Strategic Aerospace & Defence Initiative (successor program to TPC) provides effective, adequate funding under the right terms and conditions to support industry-led aerospace Research and Development (R&D); 2) maximizing the industrial benefits for Canada's aerospace industry from DND's procurements; 3) ensuring that airworthiness/certification regualtions functions do not unduly constrain the global competitiveness of Canadian aerospace firms; 4) securing open access to the US defence market and removing obstalces to Canadian aerospace firms accessing US-origin controlled technologies and partnering with their American counterparts; 5) facilitating the participation of Canadian aerospace firms on-board new development programs and in global supply chains; and 6), developing a well-trained workforce. In addition AIAC will continue advocate for the implementation of a comprehensive national aerospace strategy.
