- Climate Change Adaptation -- national infrastructure and natural disaster mitigation strategy; (Natural Resources Canada, Infrastructure Canada, Transport Canada), with respect to the development of a risk assessment tool by Natural Resources Canada to help municipalities determine infrastructure that may be at risk due to age or inadequate size; with respect to the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, requesting that attention be given to sewer and waste water renewal projects to help Canadian homes, businesses and communities adapt to climate change. This will assist Canadian insurers by providing a more stable claims environment on the issues of natural disasters in general, and water losses in particular.
- Flood issues - including flood mapping to inform government of the extent of flood risks and zones across the country, best estimates of property losses, recommendations for infrastructure investment
- National Coordination of provincial stolen and wrecked vehicle programs. (Transport Canada), with regard to allowing the exchange of information in order to prevent the fraudulent "re-VINing" of vehicles. This refers to the practice of changing the Vehicle Information Number (VIN) on a stolen or wrecked vehicle, thus facilitating its fraudulent re-sale.
- Raise awareness of the necessity for the federal government to be better prepared in the event of a major earthquake and proposed public-private partnership with the insurance industry to better protect Canadians
- Submission on Office of Privacy Commissioner of Canada consultation on proposed federal privacy legislation reforms to implement Canada’s Digital Charter

Description of the organization's activities
Established in 1964, Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) is the voice of companies that insure the homes, cars and businesses of Canadians. IBC member companies provide close to 90 percent of the non-government general insurance sold in Canada. Government auto insurers also participate with private insurers in IBC vehicle information programs. As the trade association for the general insurance industry, the role of IBC is to be active in the business environment on behalf of its members, forecasting and responding to issues that may arise, and anticipating opportunities to identify, shape and influence change in support of members business needs. IBC lobbies the federal and provincial governments to secure changes in public policy and improvements in the business-operating environment that will benefit insurance companies and their customers. It works on a number of fronts to increase public understanding of home, car and business insurance. Public understanding is also fostered in four IBC regional consumer centres, where trained personnel with many years of industry and government relations experience answer tens of thousands of consumer inquiries each year.

Full membership in IBC is open to P&C insurers licensed in Canada, including reinsurance companies and insurance subsidiaries of other financial institutions. Full members have the right to elect IBC's Board of directors. Industry stakeholder services are available to non-insurance companies with business relationships with the P&C insurance industry. Industry stakeholder members are non-voting members.
