- Bill formerly known as S-4, "An Act to amend the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act", with respect to the potential impacts of new data breach and valid consent provisions on Canadian business online, the entertainment software industry, and development, sale and distribution of entertainment software in Canada, and the proposal of amendments to these sections and accompanying regulations.
- Introduction of copyright reform legislation to bring Copyright Act into compliance with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Internet treaties and a) contains more specific language and stringent penalties for the manufacture and use of circumvention devices used to bypass embedded technical protection measures (TPMs) and b) requires Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to take down websites offering pirated products once the ISP has been notified and provided evidence by the rights holder.
