- Age-Verification programs - Currently the Canadian Convenience Store Association (CCSA) utilizes a age verification system that it has created for its members called We Expect ID. The system was developed to educate and train retail employees how to properly check for ID when selling age restricted products. The CCSA is seeking government support in making this program, or a variation of it, mandatory for all retailers across Canada.

- Contraband Tobacco - The Canadian Convenience Store Association (CCSA) represents over 30,000 independent and chain community based convenience stores. A significant percentage of their revenue is gained through legal tobacco sales. The growth and proliferation of illegal contraband tobacco in communities across Canada has caused significant financial hardship for many small business owners within the CCSA. In addition the societal problems created through increased youth accessibility and organized crime is also a concern. Our lobbying efforts on this issue relate primarily to raising awareness of the growing problem of contraband and encouraging governments to consider a variety of solutions to tackle the problem. Some of the solutions proposed include increased enforcement, changes to the tax structure on legal tobacco, public awareness campaigns, banning youth possession and border security

- Credit Card Fees - As a member of the Retail Council of Canada, the Canadian Convenience Store Association (CCSA) is interested in government regulation and policies pertaining to rising admininstration fees, associated from credit card purchases, charged to vendors from credit card companies and financial institutions. The CCSA is recommending limits to what credit card companies can charge vendors as a percentage of each sale. While there is no specific legislation targeted at this time there has been siginificant discussions lately from the Ministry of Finance about this issue

The CCSA is a non-profit trade association that represents the interests of Canada's convenience store industry and the communities they serve on issues including merchant credit card fees, contraband tobacco, responsible community retailing, nutritional labeling, over-regulation and taxation and is the creator and manager of We ID, a national age-verification training program.
