| Description of the organization's activities: | Engineers Canada is the national organization of the provincial and territorial associations and ordre that regulate the practicve of engineering in Canada and license Canada's 160,000 professional engineers. Established in 1936, Engineers Canada delivers national programs that ensure the highest standard of engineering education, professional qualifications and ethical conduct. Engineers Canada is the voice of the associations and ordre at the national and international level and promotes a greater understanding of the role and contribution of engineering to society. Through the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB), Engineers Canada accredits undergradute and graduate engineering programs in Canada that meet or exceed educational standartds required to be granted registration as a professional engineer in Canada. The Canadian Engineering Qualifications Board (CEQB), formulates national guidelines on the qualifications and standards of practice required of professional engineers. | Subject Matter: Retrospective: | Engineers Canada has met periodically with officals in the Departments of Transport, Communities and Infrastructure, Natrual Resources, Environment, to disucss issues related to Canada's infrastructure and climate change. Over the past six months this included an informal discussion with the Minister of Natural Resources and a meeting with the Parliamentary Secretary. Engineers Canada has also met on an ongoing basis with senior officials from the Departments of Citizenship and Immigration and Human Resources and Social Development in order to discuss the issue of foreign credentials and how to improve the settlement and integration of internationally trained engineering graduates into licensed practice in Canada. Engineers Canada also discussed plans for the establishment of the Foreign Credential Referral Office with senior officials in the above two departments. These discussions have also included the issue of inter-provincial mobility for professionals. In March 2007, the CEO of Engineers Canada testified before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Human Resources and Social Development as part of the Committee's study of labour mobility in Canada. During 2007 Engineers Canada also met from time to time with officials from other government departments in areas identified under Section D to discuss issues of interest. Engineers Canada has received funding in the past from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade under the Program for Export Market Development (PEMD) in order to assist work with engineering associations in other countries as part of its efforts to facilitate the mobility of engineers between Canada and other countries. | ||||||||
| Subject Matter: Prospective: | Engineers Canada plans to continue to meet with members of the Executive Branch, members of Parliament and their staffs, and departmental staff with a focus on the following themes: -Citizenship and Immigration - regulations and amendments to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, in particular regarding the settlement of internationally trained engineers in Canada. -HRSD - with respect to the ongoing HRSDC-funded project "FROM CONSIDERATION TO INTEGRATION" (FC2I), and its related Labour Market Study .-INFRASTRUCTURE CANADA - including discussions related to the proposal for the establishment of a National Round Table on Sustainable Infrastructure. -Environment Canada and Natural Resouces Canada - including activities related to the Climate Change Action Plan such as the Public Infrastructure Engineering Vulnerability Committee, which is preparing an inventory of public infrastructure and its vulnerability to the effects of climate change. Engineers Canada expects to seek additional funding from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade under the Program for Export Market Development (PEMD) in order to assist our work with engineering associations in other countries as part of its efforts to facilitate the mobility of engineers between Canada and other countries. | ||||||||
