- Obtain funding for education programs related to Cyberconduct
Legislative Proposal, Bill or Resolution
- Bill C-377 – An Act to amend the Income Tax Act
Now that the Bill is in the Senate we are actively lobbying Senators in an effort to defeat this Bill at this stage. Bill C-377 is considered an unecessary and discriminatory attack ofn the labour movement in Canada
- Continue to support amendments to the Criminal Code to address the misuse of technology and occurrences such as cyberbullying.
- Cyberbullying: Bill C-273 in support of Amendments to the Criminal Code that more specifically address this topic.
- Lobby for changes to Canadian Labour Code to reflect Supreme Court of Canada decision of June 2007 re collective bargaining as a constitutional right.
- Make presentations during Federal budget consultations on Child Poverty and the connection to education of children and youth. This swill be part of our Hill day lobby in April re supporting Canadian families.
- Oppose any attempt to remove Section 43 of the Criminal Code.
- Propose the strengthening of laws against exploitation of women and children.
- Seek to broaden, under the Income Tax Act, the ability of teachers to deduct employment expenses.

- Proposed First Nations Education Act. As part of our continuing lobby efforts and our Hill day advocacy we will be supporting efforts to improve the chances of success for First Nations children on and off reserve.
Legislative Proposal, Bill or Resolution, Regulation
- Lobby for the creation under the Canada Health Act, of a universal health care benefits program for all Canadian employees, a national system for long-term and elder care, and a national system for affordable prescription drugs.
- Promote the reduction of Child Poverty through budget measures that would increase the minimum wage, improve Employment Insurance benefits, increase investment in social housing, and, improve access to post-secondary education.
Policies or Program
- In April, we will be meeting with parliamentarians to lobby for supporting Canadian families: ie. low income
- Lobby for restrictions to the ability of employers to impose part-time employment.
- Lobby for the inclusion of child and youth services as part of federal/provincial/territorial agreements for immigrants and refugees, thus improving the education environment and opportunity for those children.
- Obtain a political committment to develope a national poverty reduction strategy.
- Raise the profile of the importance of protecting defined benefit pension plans.
Regulation
- Seek changes to the Employment Insurance Program designed to improve access to benefits for part-time workers.
- Seek to improve the regulations for the rating of films and video games to prevent violent products from being sold to children.

Description of the organization's activities
To advance the cause of education and the teaching profession by acting as the collective voice of Canadian teachers at the inter-provincial, federal and international levels. To facilitate the sharing of ideas, knowledge and skills; To conduct and foster educational research; To coordinate and deliver international assistance programs; To cooperate with other organizations in Canada and the world, sharing similar goals.
