An independent, federally incorporated not-for-profit body operating at arms length from the federal government, the Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants (CSIC) is responsible for regulating the activities of immigration consultants who are members and who provide immigration advice for a fee. In addition, the Society is responsible for ensuring the education and competency testing of its members, as well as ensuring members comply with the rules and policies of the Society through the implementation of a Complaints and Discipline procedure. The Society provides educational services namely, training of immigration consultants; qualification and testing of immigration consultants; public education by means of printed and electronic publications, website advice, courses and seminars respecting immigration issues and choice and evaluation of immigration counsel, consultants and assistants; government liaison services, namely dealing with the Canadian government with respect to issues involving the rights and obligations of immigrants, and of immigration consultants. The Society's mandate is to protect the consumers of immigration consulting services and ensure the competent and professional conduct of its members.
