Legislative Proposal, Bill or Resolution
- The Feeds Act, as amended by Bill C-18, will authorize the CFIA to require preventive control programs in feed manufacturing establishments. ANAC supports this measure, provided a system of differential oversight is implemented, to enable the regulator to focus its attention where most needed.
Policies or Program, Regulation
- ANAC is participating in consultations and dialogue with Health Canada looking at Veterinary Drugs Regulations and Policy changes as it relates to animal nutrition and feed production.
Regulation
- ANAC is now participating in an industry-government process aimed at modernizing the Feeds Regulations. ANAC is in regular contact with CFIA to communicate the feed industry's position on regulatory renewal.
Health Canada's Veterinary Drugs Directorate is also contacted by ANAC as we present the position that certain zootechnical feed additives, currently classified as drugs, should instead be considered feed ingredients and regulated by CFIA.
The association's position is that a modernized feeds regulation should focus on safety, foster innovation and competitiveness and provide adequate consumer protection. Redundant, outdated and unnecessary regulatory barriers should be removed.
