Lobbied Environment Canada with respect to the need to complete funding decision before summer field season. The Endangered Species Recovery Fund (ESRF) granting program is currently on hold for the 2009 field season, as Enviornment Canada makes funding decision for 2010 field season. Environment Canada has funded this program since 1988. The funds are used to support research projects focused on the recovery of endangered species in Canada.
Lobbied in respect to contribution agreement payment(s) status in reference to the Endangered Species Recovery Fund granting program.
Species at Risk Act implementation, with respect to status of Federal payment as per signed contribution agreement.

Legislative Proposal, Bill or Resolution

"Acquisition of Lands" of the Canada Wildlife Act, Provision 9, with regards to promoting the Shuhtagot'ine Nene area to Environment Canada for acceptance as a new National Wildlife Area.
Bill C-288 (Kyoto Protocol Implementation Act): WWF has supported adoption of this Bill and commented on the approaches to compliance
Lobbied in respect to the creation of a Federal-Provincial agreement to establish Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area.

Policies or Program

Increasing regional and national enforcement of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Flora and Fauna (CITES) in Canada.
Integrated oceans management policy, with regards to contact with Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada about the need to implement integrated oceans management plans.
Lobbied Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada to develop a cod recovery strategy for the Newfoundland Region that includes specific measures for limiting fishing mortality. Also called for the protection of coldwater coral hotspots in the Newfoundland Region
Lobbied for the establishment of networks of Marine Protected Areas in Atlantic Canada (under the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Environment Canada marine protected area programs).

Energy Efficiency Act; in regards to advancing regulation on standby power of appliances. Assited by active participation with the Standby Power Advisory Group and promotion of Energy Star appliances.
Lobbied Environment Canada with respect to the need to complete interim land withdrawals of northern protected areas
New regulation establishing Taryum Naryiut pursuant to Oceans Act, with regards to lobbying for appropriate regulations for Beaufort Sea Taryum Naryiut proposed Marine Protected Area (beluga whales), to not allow industrial activity in Marine Protected Area.
Review of the Regulatory Systems across the North with respect to future development and environmental protection.
Wild Animal and Plant Trade Regulations (WAPTR): Amendment to Schedule 1 of the regulations to include that species are added to Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES) at the United Nations Climate Change conference (CoP 14).
