Description of the organization's activities: THE COUNCIL FOR HEALTH RESEARCH IN CANADA IS COMPRISED OF VOLUNTARY HEALTH AND RESEARCH ORGANIZATIONS/INSTITUTES WITH A VISION OF BUILDING WORLD-CLASS HEALTH RESEARCH IN CANADA. THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE COUNCIL IS THE PROMOTION OF HEALTH RESEARCH. ITS GOALS ARE: 1) TO ENHANCE THE FUNDING FOR HEALTH RESEARCH IN CANADA FROM ALL SOURCES; 2) TO PROVIDE EVIDENCE TO CANADA'S DECISION MAKERS THAT HEALTH RESEARCH REPRESENTS AN INVESTMENT IN CANADA'S FUTURE NOT ONLY IN TERMS OF THE HEALTH OF CANADIANS AND THE NATION'S HEALTH CARE SYSTEM BUT ALSO IN TERMS OF JOB CREATION IN A NUMBER OF HEALTH CARE INDUSTRIES INCLUDING PHARMACEUTICAL, MEDICAL DEVICE AND BIOTECHNOLOGY; 3) TO WORK WITH GOVERNMENT TO ARTICULATE A VISION FOR HEALTH RESEARCH IN CANADA; 4) TO CHAMPION THE CAUSE OF HEALTH CARE OUTCOMES RESEARCH AND THE NEED FOR MORE EVIDENCE-BASED MEDICINE AND TO ENSURE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING THAT HEALTH RESEARCH RATHER THAN BEING A "COST" TO SOCIETY, REPRESENTS AN IMPORTANT SOURCE OF COST-SAVING WITHIN THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM.
