Description of the organization's activities: MISSION STATEMENT OF THE NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE OF CANADA (NCIC): TO UNDERTAKE AND SUPPORT RESEARCH AND RELATED PROGRAMS IN CANADA THAT WILL LEAD TO A REDUCTION OF THE INCIDENCE, MORBIDITY AND MORTALITY OF CANCER. THE NCIC RECEIVES FUNDS FROM THE CANADIAN CANCER SOCIETY AND THE TERRY FOX FOUNDATION. THE MAJORITY OF FUNDS ARE DISTRIBUTED TO SCIENTISTS ACROSS CANADA BASED ON RIGOROUS PEER REVIEW OF APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED TO THE NCIC. THERE ARE SUPPORT PROGRAMS FOR A BROAD SPECTRUM OF RESEARCH, FOR TRAINING, FOR CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND FOR REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT. THE NCIC IS THE ADMINISTRATIVE HOME OF THE CANADIAN BREAST CANCER RESEARCH ALLIANCE(CBCRA), A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN NCIC, CCS, HEALTH CANADA, CANADIAN INSTITUTES OF HEALTH RESEARCH, AVON FLAME FOUNDATION, CANADIAN BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION, AND THE CANADIAN BREAST CANCER NETWORK. IT IS ALSO THE HOME OF THE CANADIAN PROSTATE CANCER RESEARCH INITIAVE (CPCRI), A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN NCIC, CCS, HEALTH CANADA AND THE CANADIAN PROSTATE CANCER NETWORK; AND THE CANADIAN TOBACCO CONTROL RESEARCH INITIATIVE (CTCRI), A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN NCIC, CCS, SSHRC AND HEALTH CANADA.
Organization's membership or classes of membership: MEMBERSHIP IN THE CORPORATION SHALL BE LIMITED TO THE DIRECTORS OF THE CORPORATION WHO WILL AUTOMATICALLY BECOME MEMBERS UPON BEING ELECTED TO THE BOARD.
