• HTC Purenergy wishes to have heavy oil producer apply it's carbon dioxide capture technology to a 600 tonne/day capture plant that could be engineered in 2011 and built in 2012. This capture plant would take CO2 from three 125 mbtu SAGD boilers that will be used to generate steam to produce heavy oil in the Lloydminster area. Pike's Peak and Lashburn to be more specific. However, Husky will only be inclined to build this capture plant using HTC's, made in Canada, technology if assistance is provided by the federal and provincial governments. The total development will be well over $500 milliion but the capture plant alone will cost approx $80 million. HTC is requesting that the federal government fund $40 million of this and $20 million from the province of Saskatchewan and the balance to be provided by Husky Energy. HTC has had many meetings with the Oil Sands Division and Clean Energy Divisions of Natural Resources Canada. The officials in these departments very much like this project and have recommended that we speak to members of parliament to increase their awareness of the importance of the project. The project underpins a longer term strategy to collect carbon dioxide from all SAGD boilers across Alberta and Saskatchewan. The result being that the oil sands become "green and clean" and the CO2 can be used to enhance recovery of conventional and non-conventional oil thus increasing Canada's energy security and potential for exports. It would drmatically change the image that the oil sands has been tainted with over the past couple of years and put the country at the forefront of developing clean enegery from fossil fuels.
