CIMA (formerly CIRPA) is the trade organization representing the Canadian-owned independent sector of the Canadian music and sound recording industry and the collective voice of independent music in English-speaking Canada.

Organization's membership or classes of membership
CIMA membership is open to Canadian-owned businesses and their representatives. There are two types of membership:
Full Voting Members
Affiliate Non-Voting Members
1. Voting Members
These members are actively engaged in the creation, production and distribution of records. A business can qualify for Voting Membership under one of the following categories:
Label with a catalogue of at least 2 Canadian produced albums.
Distributor of Canadian-produced albums that has been recognized by FACTOR. (With certain restrictions.)
Manager that represents at least 1 Canadian recording artist and whose artists combined have released at least 2 Canadian produced albums.
Record Producer that has released 2 albums in the preceding 12 months.
Recording Studio that has produced at least 4 released albums in the preceding 12 months.
An individual who is not an employee, officer or director of a company, and is actively engaged in the creation, production and distribution of records, can qualify for Voting Membership at the discretion of the CIMA Board of Directors.
2. Affiliate Members
These members are not actively engaged in the production of records but may play a variety of roles in the music industry. This includes Accountants, Artists, Creative Services providers, Lawyers, Manufacturers, Publishers, Publicists, Promoters and affiliated cultural industry Associations.
Membership Requirements
Members must meet the following requirements:
Businesses must be owned or controlled by Canadian citizens or landed immigrants of Canada.
Individuals must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants of Canada.
Members must support the objectives of the Association and subscribe to high standards of ethical conduct.
New members should be recommended for membership by at least one voting member.
