Description of the organization's activities
Founded in 1880, the OMA has from its beginning played a vital role in the development and promotion of health-care services across Ontario. As the representative of Ontario’s physicians, Ontario Medical Association (“OMA”) advocates for the well-being of our members and the health of Ontarians. We are committed to strengthening the leadership role of doctors in caring for patients. The vision of the organization is to be the trusted voice in transforming Ontario’s health-care system. Programs, discussion papers, policy statements, press releases, interviews, educational material and meetings arising from the work of the OMA are important components of the medical profession's contribution to the development of public policy on health care.

Organization's membership or classes of membership
Practicing physicians and residents are members of the association. In addition, students enrolled in any of the six Ontario faculties of medicine are eligible for OMA membership. The Board of Directors is made up of 11 directors (eight physician directors and three non-physicians) who are elected by the OMA membership based on their skills and expertise; a President who is also one of the eleven voting Board of Directors. The President-Elect and the Immediate Past-President are elected by members and are non-voting officers of the OMA Board of Directors. The Chair and Vice-Chair of the Board are elected by the Directors from among the eleven directors. The Board of Directors provides oversight for the management of the business and ensures that all systems and procedures are in place for the organization to run effectively, efficiently and meet all legal and contractual requirements. The Chief Executive Officer, provides executive leadership and manages the overall operations of the resources of the Association, its committees and its subsidiaries in accordance with all policies of the OMA and direction received by the OMA Board of Directors.
