Legislative Proposal, Bill or Resolution
- Commencing discussion with Minister of Transport and Transport Canada officials on the forthcoming statutory review of the Canada Transportation Act, with emphasis on supply chain reliability, particularly rail and marine freight transportation.

- Shipping Conferences Exemption Act (SCEA) with respect to shipping cartels and alliances. FMA is the shipper organization designated in the Act to provide input from the purchasers of marine freight transportation. Recent meetings with Canadian Transportation Agency and office of Commissioner of Competition on the use of SCEA to address possible violations of this law by shipping lines.
Policies or Program
- Decontamination of arriving marine containers. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is developing "best practice" guides for supply chain participants to minimize the importation of invasive plant and animal species into North America on or in shipping containers. FMA has been providing input to CFIA on the implications of this initiative on importers and working with CFIA to communicate the best practice guides to stakeholders.
- Liaison with Transport Canada and Natural Resources Canada on impacts of COVID-19 on all modes of freight transportation, particularly rail freight. More recently focusing on impacts of Trans-Pacific Container Lines regarding service problems and charges over-and-above contracted rates.

- CT Agency Investigation - Vancouver Rail Congestion. FMA provided input to the Canadian Transportation on this first investigation under the Agency's new "own motion" investigation powers in early 2019 following significant rail service problems in Vancouver winter 2018-2019. In abeyance due to COVID-19 shutdown
Regulation
- Transport Drivers Hours-of-Service (HOS) Regulations. FMA provided input to the "Canada Gazette Part I draft regulation requiring the installation of electronic logging devices (ELDs) in trucks to accurately monitor drivers' HOS. FMA continues to work with Transport Canada to communicate the details of the new regulation to the shipper community.
- Update of Rail Regulations - FMA continues to communicate with the Canadian Transportation Agency on proposed revisions to the Railway Regulated Interswitching regulations.
