Accessible Format Production: CELA creates and distributes accessible formats of books for people with print disabilities in Canada. The SDPP-D program (The Social Development Partnerships Program (Disability)), a part of ESDC, has provided funding to CELA year by year in the past, and this will be the primary target of lobbying. CELA will be lobbying for stable and ongoing funding for this essential work to help people with print disabilities in Canada. Another possible source of funding is through Canadian Heritage, which supports accessible publishing in various forms as well.

CELA is a national not-for-profit organization run by public libraries for public libraries. Vision: Equitable public library services for Canadians with print disabilities. Mission: To support public libraries in the provision of accessible collections for Canadians with print disabilities and to champion the fundamental right of Canadians with print disabilities to access media and reading materials in the format of their choice. Mandate: To acquire, produce, and distribute published works in alternative formats to Canadian public libraries and to provide public libraries with advice, training, and information to support their patrons’ access to and use of these collections.
