- Elkem Metal Canada Inc. (Elkem Metal) wants to build a first commercial biocarbon briquette manufacturing plant that would be funded in part by the SIF (Strategic Investment Funds) program. This first commercial plant represents a scaling (factor between 10 and 15) of the technology developed since the demonstration and the pilot plant currently under construction.
Elkem Metal is studying the possibility of building a new commercial biocarbon briquette manufacturing plant with a production capacity of approximately 40,000 tons. This investment project of approximately $110 million would replace, in part, the metallurgical coal currently used at Elkem Metal's Chicoutimi plant, while a certain proportion would be destined for export. I would be supporting their efforts to receive funding for this project from the federal government by organizing / attending meetings with the client - as well as supporting meeting preparation details.
