- Defence Development Sharing Agreement funding for the MIDS-LVT Link-16 Enhanced Throughput (LET) E1553 Development Program
This Program shall support the U.S. Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) initiative to increase the performance and functionality of the Multifunctional Information Distribution System (MIDS) Low Volume Terminal (LVT) 1 (MIDS-LVT-1) and MIDS-LVT-3 Fighter Data Link (FDL) Line-Replaceable Units (LRU). MIDS is is the NATO name for the communication component of Link-16, which has a particular waveform. Upgraded MIDS-LVT LRUs will have an additional waveform that provides higher throughput and additional functionality than the legacy Link-16 waveform. The new waveform likely will be an enhanced Link-16 solution such as Enhanced Throughput (ET) or Flexible Access Secure Transfer (FAST).
The particular support needed is to provide a solution to the integration problem incurred by the increased throughput of the upgraded MIDS-LVT LRUs that exceeds the capacity of the legacy 1553 data bus connecting the LRU to other LRUs in the platform. The Problem is that the time and cost of upgrading the platforms with an additional computer networking capability to support the additional data throughput and functionality that requires adding additional wiring in the platform and connectors on the LRUs renders the MIDS-LVT upgrade unaffordable in cost and schedule.
Thus, the OSD’s preferred computer networking solution is ECSI’s proven Extended 1553 (E1553) technology. In fact, the OSD has provided funds for ECSI to create an E1553 Complete Technology Development Strategy for the MIDS-LVT Link-16 Enhanced Throughput (LET) Materiel Solution Analysis Phase according to the OSD’s Integrated Defense Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics Life Cycle Management System, Version 5.3.3, 28 Jan 2009.
- Enhancing Real-Time Software Development (RTEdgeTM Platform
Project)
Edgewater Computer Systems, Inc. is seeking a contract with the Canadian Department of National Defence concerning its RTEdge software toolset. RTEdge is used by software architects, engineers, and programmers (Users) to specify, model, program, schedule (real-time analysis), and simulate application software for real-time systems. So, ECSI creates the RTEdge toolset and the Customer (Canada’s DND et al) Users (employees) use RTEdge to create application software for the Customer’s real-time systems.
The RTEdge contract is to provide R&D to add additional capabilities to the existing RTEdge Software Platform Suite. It also provides four RTEdge licenses with an Option for an additional five RTEdge licenses.
- Network Interface Cards Meeting the Requirements Of MIL-STD-1553B Notice 6 ("FAST1553") Project
Edgewater Computer Systems, Inc. (ECSI) is seeking a contract with the Canadian Department of National Defence to provide an "enhanced" 1553B Network Interface Card (NIC) in a PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC) form factor with communication rate in excess of 100 Mbps (Physical layer) utilizing an unmodified legacy 1553 data bus without interference with the legacy 1553 waveform and equivalent to MIL-STD-1553B Notice 6.
The scope of this work shall include the design, development, build and contract technical compliance verification (test, demonstration, and analysis) of Engineering Development Model (EDM) NIC and supporting software.
ECSI is the only known source of a MIL-STD 1553B Notice 6 compliant NIC. ECSI's prototype NIC tested and demonstrated by the USAF, including a highly successful F-16 flight test where it was fully integrated into the Operation Flight Program (OFP).
