Legislative Proposal, Bill or Resolution

• Engaged in the debate to amend the Canadian Environmental Protection Act. Focused on the issue of extraterritorial enforcement of Canadian law.

Policies or Program

• Air Emissions Standards. We are presently working with Environment and Climate Change Canada on developing new air policy.Our objective is to make sure our industry is fairly categorized.
• Monitoring developments on a Clean Electricity Standard and the potential impact this policy could have on the availability of wood fiber to make composite wood panels.
• Monitoring updates to the Canadian Chemicals Management Plan.

Regulation

• Addressing Output-based performance standard being developed by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).
• Addressing proposed clean fuels regulations being developed by ECCC.
• Discussing with Health Canada implementation issues associated with the final formaldehyde regulation finalized in mid-2021 and amendments to the rule, anticipated to be proposed in 2023.
• Participating in a workgroup as a representative of industry addressing updates to the NPRI reporting requirements.
