Changes to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act (CDSA) with respect to the marketing, sales and distribution of prescription drug products.

Policies or Program

To include recognition of the value and importance of abuse-deterrent/tamper-resistant opioid medications in the Canadian Drugs and Substances Strategy, as announced on December 12, 2016, and their benefit to the public health as part of a multifaceted strategy to combat prescription drug misuse, abuse and diversion.

Regulation

All controlled-release oxycodone products approved/sold in Canada, in all strengths, should be demonstrated to be abuse-deterrent and the Regulations under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act should be drafted to make this a requirement for the pre-market approval or the continuation of existing market approval of these products.
