AS A FOLLOW-UP TO THIS MEETING, CHA FORWARDED SUGGESTIONS FOR REPRESENTATIVES FOR THE SCIENCE ADVISORY BUREAU, THE BLOOD TRANSITION BUREAU, AND THE ADVISORY COUNCIL ON HEALTH INFO-STRUCTURE. NOVEMBER 1997: HEAL (WHICH INCLUDES CHA) MADE A PRE-BUDGET SUBMISSION TO THE STANDING COMMITTEE ON FINANCE. CHA PARTICIPATES IN A NUMBER OF COMMITTEES AND CONSULTATION WORKSHOPS ESTABLISHED BY THE THERAPEUTIC PRODUCTS DEVICES DIRECTORATE OF HEALTH CANADA. JANUARY 1998: A CHA REPRESENTATIVE ATTENDED THE CONFERENCE ON NATIONAL APPROACHES TO PHARMACARE IN SASKATOON. JANUARY 1998: CHA REPRESENTATIVES ATTENDED A MEETING ORGANIZED BY STAFF FROM THE BLOOD SERVICES TRANSITION BUREAU IN ORDER TO BE BRIEFED ON THE BUREAU'S PROGRESS. CHA RAISED A NUMBER OF CONCERNS RELATED TO THE NEW BLOOD SYSTEM AND THE RECOMMENDATIONS OUTLINED IN THE FINAL KREVER REPORT. FEBRUARY 1998: CHA SENT A LETTER TO THE PRIME MINISTER CONCERNING PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE PATENT MEDICINES REGULATIONS. FEBRUARY 1998: CHA REPRESENTATIVES MET WITH STAFF FROM THE INTERNAL TRADE SECRETARIAT AT THEIR REQUEST. CHA RAISED A NUMBER OF ISSUES RELATED TO THE INTERNAL TRADE AGREEMENT AND HEALTH SERVICES. FEBRUARY 1998: A CHA REPRESENTATIVE ATTENDED THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON HEALTH INFO-STRUCTURE IN EDMONTON. MARCH 1998: A CHA REPRESENTATIVE ATTENDED THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON HOMECARE IN HALIFAX. MARCH 1998: CHA REPRESENTATIVES APPEARED BEFORE THE STANDING COMMITTEE ON INDUSTRY TO DISCUSS THE IMPACT OF THE YEAR 2000 PROBLEM AND ITS IMPACT ON THE HEALTHCARE SECTOR.
Subject Matter: Prospective: THE HEALTH ACTION LOBBY, WHICH INCLUDES CHA, WILL BE MEETING WITH HEALTH MINISTER ALLAN ROCK ON MARCH 20 TO DISCUSS POSSIBLE AREAS FOR REINVESTMENT IN HEALTH AND NEW MODELS OF HEALTHCARE DELIVERY. CHA WILL BE FOLLOWING-UP WITH SERGIO MARCHI, MINISTER OF INTERNATIONAL TRADE REGARDING THE MULTILATERAL AGREEMENT ON INVESTMENTS. CHA PLANS TO CONTINUE TO DISCUSS ISSUES RELATED TO THE FINAL KREVER REPORT WITH STAFF OF THE NEWLY FORMED CANADIAN BLOOD SERVICES.
