Description of the organization's activities: | THE CTEA MEMBERSHIP IS MADE UP OF COMMERCIAL VEHICLE MANUFACTURERS, COMPONENT/SYSTEM SUPPLIERS & RELATED STAKEHOLDERS. THE ORGANIZATION PROMOTES COMPLIANCE TO SAFETY REGULATIONS AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL AND SUBSEQUENTLY IS ENGAGED WITH TRANSPORT CANADA ROAD SAFETY and Environment Canada ON MATTERS OF NEW REGULATIONS AND AMENDMENTS TO EXISITING REGULATIONS. WE ARE ALSO ENGAGED IN ORGANIZING AND SUPPORTING JOINT TESTING PROGRAMS TO BENEFIT THE MANUFACTURERS. |

MANUFACTURER, DEALER/DISTRIBUTOR/ASSOCIATE & AFFILIATE.MANUFACTURERS ARE CORPORATIONS THAT ASSEMBLE VOCATIONALHIGHWAY TRUCKS, TRACTORS AND TRAILERS. DEALER/DISTRIBUTORS RETAIL THE PRODUCTS AND PROVIDE SERVICES TO THE USERS OF THE VEHICLES AND EQUIPMENT. ASSOCIATES ARE COMPANIES THAT SUPPLY SERVICES SUCH AS BUSINESS SYSTEMS AND ARE NOT ENGAGED IN PRODUCING VEHICLE OR PRODUCTS. AFFILIATES ARE OTHER TRADE ASSOCIATIONS AND GOVERNMENT AGENCIES THAT HAVE AN INTEREST IN THE INDUSTRY. THE LATTER TWO CATEGORIES DO NOT HAVE VOTING PRIVELEGES. |

IN ADDITION,CONVERSATIONS RELATING TO National Safety Mark (NSM) APPLICATION ISSUES ON BEHALF OF MEMBERS HAS CONTINUED. THE SUBJECT OF AN ENFORCEMENT AGENDA FOR ROAD SAFETY OFFICERS HAS ALSO BEEN A TOPIC OF DISCUSSION. Various issues relating to Transport Canada's Regulation Plan were also discussed for clarification and to provide input. | ||||||||||||
Subject Matter: Prospective: | CTEA PLANS TO MEET WITH TRANSPORT CANADA OFFICIALS IN OTTAWA IN MARCH TO REVIEW PROGRESS IN THE REGISTRATION OF COMPANIES ENGAGED IN MULTI-STAGE MANUFACTURING PROCESSES INVOLVING COMMERCIAL HIGHWAY VEHICLES. WE ALSO INTEND TO PRESENT the status of THE ASSOCIATION'S progress on the GENERIC REAR IMPACT GUARD PROGRAM TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE NEW REGULATION CMVSS223. Plan to continue discussions regarding the Transport Canada positions on possible changes to CMVSS 121 in line with Ontario's 'SPIF' trailer enhanced brake system and the US NHTSA's NPRM for reducing stopping distances in FMVSS 121. Also plan to open dialogue as necessary regarding any anticipated changes to regulations affecting the multi-stage vehicle or trailer manufacturing industry. | ||||||||||||
