Description of the organization's activities
The University of Western Ontario is one of Canada's oldest and largest universities. It is a vibrant centre of learning with 1,279 faculty members and almost 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Through its 12 Faculties and Schools, and three affiliated Colleges, the University offers more than 60 different degree and diploma programs. Research is an integral part of the University's mission and external support for research projects totals nearly $220 million per year.

Organization's membership or classes of membership
Western is governed by a bicameral system that is enshrined by provincial statute in the University of Western Ontario Act. The Act assigns responsibility to the Board of Governors for the government, conduct, management and control of the University and of its property and affairs. The Senate has responsibility for academic program and policy decisions. There are 28 voting members of the Board of Governors, including City and County representatives, Lieutenant Governor-in-Council appointees, external business leaders, faculty, staff, student and alumni members, and members elected by the Board itself. The Senate has 102 voting members with a broad membership, including faculty, staff and student members, alumni and community leaders, and representatives of the Affiliated University Colleges.
