Description of the organization's activities: The Canadian Federation of Humane Societies is the national voice of humane societies and SPCAs. We bring together those who work with, and care for animals to promote respect and humane treatment toward all animals. We provide leadership on animal welfare issues and ensures these crucial messages are heard and understood from coast to coast. Our approach to improving the welfare of animals makes us a respected voice and key player in any national discussion on the use of animals.
Organization's membership or classes of membership: CFHS membership consists of humane societies, SPCAs and single-issue animal welfare organizations in ten provinces and two territories. Membership is fee-based and is voluntary.

Specifically, discussed: Bill S-213, a private Senate Bill concerning animal cruelty; Bill C-373, a private Member Bill concering animal cruelty; Bill S-203, a private Senate Bill concerning animal cruelty.
Subject Matter: Prospective: Will continue to work to educate senior policy advisors, MPs, Senators on the need for changes to the animal cruelty provisions of the Criminal Code. Will likely meet with policy advisors, MPs, Senators to discuss overdue changes needed for federal transportation act concerning livestock transportation and related issues.
