Description of the organization's activities: | The Council is a national English-language trade association representing publishers of general interest books for all ages, textbooks for all levels of education, online databases, e-books, and professional and reference works. The association was founded in 1910 as a section of the Toronto Board of Trade. The Council conducts research, collects market statistics, liaises with government Departments and agencies responsible for policy relevant to publishing -- including but not limited to international trade, tax, copyright, competition law, and technology. It endeavours to assist ALL Canadians in the use of intellectual property. The Council is active in several industry domestic and international organizations at a Member or Director level. The Executive Director sits on the International Publishers' Association Copyright Council (IPACC) and is Chair of the Canadian Cpyright Institute. |
