Legislative Proposal, Bill or Resolution
- General lobbying and discussions in order to obtain appropriate legislation to offer rebates or exemptions from Goods and Services Tax/Harmonized Sales Tax(GST/HST), for multi-employer pension and benefit plans.
- In connection with both Bill C-25, The Pooled Retirement Pension Plans Act (the Act) and the Dec14/11 proposed amendments to the Income Tax Act ( the ITA) to accomodate Pooled Retirement Pension Plans, by:
1. revising the existing Multi-Employer Pension Pension Plan (MEPP) and Registered Pension Plan (RPP) provisions of the ITA to extend the same participation rules being extended to PRPPs ;and
2. revising the proposed ITA amendments and Bill C-25, to ensure that MEPPs, among others , can deliver and administer PRPPs, subject only to existing requirements for RPPs under the ITA, as well as federal and provincial pension standards legislation and that MEPPs and other RPPs should be exempted from compliance with any federal or provincial PRPP legislation, subject to compliance with RPP investment and governance requirements.
