- -provision of security funding to at-risk communities (to make the Security Infrastructure Pilot Program permanent and sustainable with increased funding available.)
- Darfur Conflict: advocacy for more political and financial support from the Government of Canada to resolve the conflict.
Legislative Proposal, Bill or Resolution
- Anti-Terrorism Act and the judicious use of security certificates. We are particularly supportive of the use of recognizance with conditions and investigative hearings but in general our interest lies in Canadian security and police forces have sufficient authority and resources to carry out a robust anti-terrorism effort, to gather intelligence and interdict terrorist activities before they can be carried out.
- Bill C-384, Mischief to Educational Institutions (will urge that this legislation be re-tabled toward establishing wider coverage of penatlies for hate-motivated crime against identifiable communities)
- CITIZENSHIP ACT (continued support for the power of the state under the current citizenship act to remove citizenship in cases involving war crimes, crimes against humanity, terrorism and extreme promotion of hate.)
- Criminal Code of Canada with respect to combating antisemitism.
- Section 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act with respect to combating antisemitism.
Policies or Program
- 2009 UN FOLLOW UP DURBAN CONFERENCE (urging Canada's ongoing non-participation) The Conference will be held April 20-24 in Geneva. We have deep concerns that it will be a replica of the 2001 World Conference Against Racism which it is following up. The original conference was a fiasco, full of antisemitism, anti-Israel and anti-West confrontations. Canada announce over a year ago that it would not participate and we have been working since to hold the government to that commitment, to secure opposition support for dissociation and to get other countries to follow Canada's example.
- Advocating for proper attention to the situation of outbreaks of H1N1 on reserves.
- Advocating for the development of a national anti-poverty strategy.
- Continuing support of the Government of Canada's policy in maintaining the office of the special advisor on antisemitism of the
Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
- INTERNATIONAL TASK FORCE ON HOLOCAUST EDUCATION, COMMEMORATION AND RESEARCH; ensure that the Government of Canada fulfills its obligations as a full member.
- WAR CRIMES PROSECUTIONS (continuing advocacy to push the denaturalization and deportation of persons found in Canada who lied about their records in the Second World War or more recent conflicts and the prosecution of war criminals when sufficient evidence is adduced.)

UNDER THE AEGIS OF CIJA, THE CANADIAN COUNCIL FOR ISRAEL AND JEWISH ADVOCACY, CANADIAN JEWISH CONGRESS (CJC) IS THE REPRESENTATIVE ORGANIZATIONAL VOICE OF THE JEWISH COMMUNITY OF CANADA. IT IS THE COMMUNITY'S MAJOR VEHICLE FOR NATIONAL ADVOCACY ON POLITICAL, LEGAL/ CONSTITUTIONAL, HUMAN RIGHTS AND SOCIAL JUSTICE ISSUES. CJC ACTS ON A BROAD RANGE OF MATTERS AFFECTING THE STATUS, RIGHTS AND WELFARE OF JEWS IN CANADA, AS WELL AS ON ISSUES OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND EQUALITY FOR ALL CANADIANS, AND ARTICULATES THE COMMUNITY'S PERSPECTIVES ON KEY ISSUES OF NATIONAL SCOPE AND SIGNIFICANCE. CJC ALSO UNDERTAKES EDUCATIONAL AND CHARITABLE ACTIVITIES IN FULFILLMENT OF ITS MANDATE.
