Gender-based analysis plus

Gender-based analysis plus (GBA Plus) is an analytical process used to assess how diverse groups of women, men and non-binary people experience policies, programs and services. The ‘plus’ acknowledges that GBA goes beyond biological (sex) and socio-cultural (gender) differences. It includes many other identity factors, including race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, religion, and disability.

Supplementary information tables

As a federal organization that prepares planning and results reports for Parliament on an annual basis, we maintain these supplementary information tables of our GBA Plus initiatives.

2023-24
Plans
GBA Plus capacity Since 2020-21, stakeholders providing feedback on our outreach services are being invited to provide GBA Plus information on an entirely voluntary basis. Analysis of this data is expected to result in changes that improve the inclusiveness and accessibility of our services and information resources.
Highlights Program: Registration services and compliance
We will use GBA Plus data to improve our presentations and outreach materials so the information presented to participants is equitable and inclusive. We will address barriers to participation and inclusivity as we encounter them. Given the small volume of responses we receive from stakeholders, our ability to report on impacts by gender and diversity is limited.

Results will be available when our 2023-24 departmental results report is tabled in Parliament (in or around fall 2024).

2022-23
Plans
GBA+ capacity Stakeholders providing feedback on our outreach services are invited to provide GBA+ information on a voluntary basis. Collected GBA+ information is anonymized, disaggregated and separately maintained. Analysis of this data is expected to result in changes that improve the inclusiveness and accessibility of our services and information resources.

Results
Governance In 2020-21, we began asking stakeholders to offer GBA Plus information voluntarily through the feedback mechanism we use following our educational sessions. As we continued to receive a small sample of feedback during 2022-23, we now aim to examine the data in 2023-24 with a view to identifying ways to improve the inclusiveness and accessibility of our services and information resources once the volume enables a proper analysis.

Initiatives

Initiative: Ensure that services and information resources are inclusive and accessible

Beginning in 2020-21, we are inviting stakeholders providing feedback on our outreach services to offer GBA+ information on a voluntary basis. Analysis of this data may lead to changes that improve the inclusiveness and accessibility of our services and information resources.
Reporting capacity and data

Program: Registration services and compliance

Collected GBA+ information will be anonymized, disaggregated and separately maintained. After the first year of GBA+ data is available and analysed, we will assess applicable uses of the data.

2019-20
Plans
Governance structures Not applicable. The Office of the Commissioner of Lobbying incorporates GBA+ on an ad hoc basis for specific initiatives.
Human resources Given the relatively small size of the office, less than 30 FTEs, there are no FTEs dedicated to GBA+ implementation. It is, however, an ongoing consideration in human resource management.
Planned initiatives Not applicable. The Office is not planning any initiatives with a significant identity-based component in 2019-20.
Results
GBA+ capacity During 2019-20, we developed methods to collect GBA+ information so that we can improve our presentations and learning materials. Beginning in 2020-21, stakeholders providing feedback on our outreach services will be invited to provide GBA+ information on a voluntary basis. Collected GBA+ information will be anonymized, disaggregated and separately maintained. Analysis of this data will be used to assess the opportunity to make changes that improve the inclusiveness and accessibility of our services and information resources.
Highlights Our Outreach and Education program integrated GBA+ data collection into a learning feedback process, taking effect in 2020-21.
